Alex Azar, M.D.

           Long a fixture on the Lower Shore, Dr. Alex Azar earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating magna cum laude. He followed medical school with a brief stint in the U.S. Army as a general medical officer and then completed a residency in preventive medicine at Ohio State University (OSU).
          His residency completed, Dr. Azar pursued work as an environmental researcher at DuPont, where he worked directly with the development of gas permeable contact lens. His work with the contact lens was the catalyst for his returning to OSU to complete a residency in ophthalmology.
           It was the right path, as Dr. Azar has continued to practice ophthalmology in Salisbury for more than 30 years. He also serves part time on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to being Board Certified in ophthalmology, he is also board certified in Preventive Medicine and is listed in the guide to America's Top Ophthalmologists. Dr. Azar has served as president of the Maryland State Medical Society and was appointed as the first health care provider on what is now the Maryland Health Care Commission. Dr. Azar's other memberships include: Board of Directors of the Center for a Healthy Maryland, CareFirst Physicians Advisory Committee, Great Salisbury Committee, and the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce.

Peter Filipov, M.D.

           Dr. Peter T. Filipov joined the Azar Eye Institute in January of 1997.  He received a B.S. in Biochemistry and Zoology from the University of Maryland in 1983, and went on to attend the St. Louis University Medical School, where he graduated in May of 1987.   Dr. Filipov performed his internship at the Washington Hospital Center, and his residency  at Temple University Hospital.  After his residency, Dr. Filipov served for 4 years in the Air Force as a staff ophthalmologist at Andrews Air Force Base.  At this time he was also a surgical instructor at Georgetown University and the Uniformed Health Services School of Medicine.
           His hobbies include boating, bicycling, and music.  Dr. Filipov lives in Salisbury with his wife Jane and three children.

Jennifer R. Giles, O.D.

           After receiving her magna cum laude undergraduate degree in Biology from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, Dr. Giles received a B.S. and O.D. from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. While at PCO, Dr. Giles finished first in her class thereby earning the Alumni Association Award for Highest Scholastic Attainment. 
          She joined the Azar Eye Institute upon her graduation in 1999.  Dr. Giles specializes in comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, optometric management of ocular disease, contact lens evaluations, and comanagement of cataract surgery.  She resides in Salisbury with her husband, Joe Wright, and their two children, JP and Caroline.

Diane Lubkeman, M.D.

           Dr. Diane Lubkeman joined the Azar Eye Institute in October of 2005, after being in private practice for 15 years.  She works primarily from the Laurel, Delaware office. 
           She received her Magna Cum Laude undergraduate degree at Mount Holyoke College.  Dr. Lubkeman received her M.D. at Syracuse University of N.Y., Health Services Center.   She completed her General Surgery internship at Rhode Island Hospital of Brown University and Ophthalmology residency at M.S. Hershey Medical Center of Penn State.  She has been Board Certified in Ophthalmology since 1989.  She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Medical Association.  She is licensed in the states of Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  She lives in Salisbury, MD with her husband, Charlie Meeahan and two children. 

Tracey Boss, O.D.

           Doctor Boss attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. She obtained her Doctorate of Optometry Degree from New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed her internships at the Joslin Diabetic Center, Boston Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic, South Boston Health Center and The New England Eye Institute.
           Doctor Boss is board certified through the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, International Board Association of Examiners in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease and The North East Regional Examiners in Optometry. 
           Doctor Boss began practicing optometry in 1996.  In addition to her training and experience in general optometry, Dr. Boss has a special interest in pediatrics.   Prior to coming to Azar Eye Institute, Doctor Boss was Director of Pediatrics at Susquehanna Eye Care in Vestal, New York. She is a National “InfantSee” physician, providing evaluations for children under one. She was inspired to pursue the field of pediatrics given her strong family values and her passion to give children the best chance in life with good sight.
           Dr. Boss is very conscientious and caring when interacting with patients. She treats everyone with the greatest respect. Dr. Boss finds that listening to patients, combined with a compassion for their needs is still fundamental in providing good patient care.
          Dr. Boss has served as the president of the South Central Optometric Association since 2002.  She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Optometric Retinal Society, American Academy of Optometry, and Vision USA. She has received the Outstanding Student Achievement Award, Education Advancement scholarship, Educational Opportunity Scholarship and Exceptional Scholar and athlete award. She also enjoys being active in the community though vision screenings and lecturing.
           Dr. Boss comes to Salisbury from Upstate New York with her husband and two young children. They look forward becoming part of the community. During their free time they enjoy long walks and spending time together as family.

Emerson Que

Emerson Que, M.D.

          Dr. Emerson Que joined the Azar Eye Institute in April of 2008. Having grown up in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Que received his BS with honors at the University of Illinois. He received his MD from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL in 2000. Dr. Que served as the Chief Resident at the New York Medical College Department of Ophthalmology in Valhalla, NY where he completed his residency in 2004. He completed his Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery in 2006.
          Dr. Que specializes in the latest LASIK vision correction techniques, state-of-the refractive cataract surgery, as well as an array of other refractive surgery options for patients who are not candidates for LASIK. Dr. Que is a highly skilled corneal surgeon who treats the entire gamut of corneal disorders. He has expertise in corneal transplants, accommodating intraocular lenses (ReZoom, Restor), Versisyse phakic implants, INTACS for Keratoconus, CK, dry eye treatments, and Anterior Segment Reconstruction. He has performed over 8,200 surgical procedures.
          Dr. Que is also an accomplished athlete, which gives him complete control and focus during demanding tasks such as surgery. As a member of the United States Olympic Team, he won a bronze medal in Tae Kwon Do in 1990. He was Illinois State Tae Kwon Do Champion in 1988, 1989 and 1990, as well as an Illinois State Tennis Sectional Double Champion in 1990. He lives in Salisbury where he is looking forward to outdoor activities on the water with his fiancé Thalia.

Emerson Que

Jason Tu, M.D.

          Dr. Tu is a highly skilled general ophthalmologist who treats a wide range of ocular issues. He has a strong interest in cataract surgeries, general glaucoma patients, dry eye treatment, and diabetic eye care. He sees both adults and children.
          Dr. Tu graduated from Jefferson Medical College and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Christiana Hospital in Newark. His residency in Ophthalmology was completed at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. An avid runner, Jason competed in the Philadelphia Marathon in 2003. He is married and has two daughters. Having grown up in the Philadelphia area, Jason is very happy to be settling in Salisbury where he is close to family and friends.
          Dr. Tu has office hours at both our Salisbury and Laurel locations.
